Retained Primitive Reflexes Are Holding Kids Back

Primitive reflexes are automatic movement patterns we’re all born with. These reflexes should become integrated—or go dormant—by around 12 months of age, making room for more mature, voluntary movements to develop.

Here's Why That Matters

But when reflexes don’t integrate properly, they can seriously interfere with a child’s:

  • Balance and Coordination
  • Focus and Learning
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Body Awareness and Control
  • Social Interactions

Instead of building a strong foundation for mobility and stability, the child develops compensations and maladaptive movement patterns—often leading to confusion, frustration, and developmental delays that impact every area of their lives.

This is What We Can Do

By addressing these reflexes with play-based exercises, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, parents, and educators can help children build the skills they missed—setting them up for lasting growth and a brighter future!

And we can have fun while doing it!

Are you seeking to refine and expand your clinical skills to effectively address the most complex developmental delays?

Are you ready to broaden your professional and business opportunities available to you as a therapist?

Do you need a done-for-you treatment and at-home plan highly targeted to treat children with developmental delays?

Hey there 👋,

This is Kokeb, pediatric OT, author, mentor, mother, and creator of Reflex Integration Through Play.

When I discovered reflex integration, I finally found a way to create strong, consistent outcomes by addressing the root causes of a child’s challenges. Over time, I developed a play-based and measurable approach that not only improved results, but also strengthened collaboration with parents and teachers. Best of all, it helped remove the stress of treatment planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Reflex Integration Through Play Certification program is an on-demand and live group coaching program designed to provide service providers with a thorough understanding of how and when to apply reflex integration techniques in a functional way to help support their clients’ development in clinic, school, and home settings.

The program is designed for any service provider working in a pediatric setting, including occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, physical therapists, speech and language pathologists, vision therapists, parent coaches, and more.

The courses within the 6-month program are approved for over 26 contact hours of AOTA-approved CEUs.

During the 6-month mentoring program, we offer various forms of support, starting with weekly Q&A sessions with Kokeb, online forums with other participants and RITP staff, and of course email 🙂

Experience applying the principles and techniques of RITP is critical to getting the clinical results, so we require 6-months of coaching to become fully certified.

There are two ways to take the program:

  • 3-Day Live Intensive + 6-month Coaching: cover the classroom parts live in a 3-day event then, to receive your full certification, complete the 6-month coaching session.
  • 6-month On-Demand + Coaching: Take the 5 classroom courses on your schedule (about 26 hours of material) then complete the 6-month coaching program, applying what you’ve learned in your clinical practice.

During the coaching portion, you’ll earn AOTA-approved CEUs, and meet with Kokeb and the other participants to talk about clients and treatment plans.

Yes! Our on-demand program is approved for over 26 contact hours as an AOTA certified provider.

Currently we do not offer approved CEUs for any other professional body.

Yes! The 6-month program is designed for any service provider working in a pediatric setting, including occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, physical therapists, speech and language pathologists, vision therapists, parent coaches, and more.

We have a number of OTs, PTs, SLPs, etc. learning in our program!

The 3-day Intensive program is only available to pediatric professionals. We’ve seen that parents and parent coaches need more time to absorb the material.

The best way to learn about reflex integration and RITP is to check out our free class all about Reflex Integration for Functional Skills.
