No Therapist Nearby? How One Parent Used RITP for At-Home Reflex Integration | Ep 25

In this episode of the Reflex Integration Through Play podcast, Kokeb sits down with Holly Anderson, a full-time homeschool mom who shares her journey navigating her daughter’s challenges with unintegrated primitive reflexes, especially those affecting eye tracking and reading.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing this alone or wished for a way to support your child at home without a clinical setting, this one’s for you.

When Reading Feels Like a Wall
⏱ 02:10

For Holly, homeschooling brought both freedom and frustration. Her daughter was struggling to read, but not in the typical “she’ll catch up” way. There were deeper challenges like skipping lines, poor focus, and fatigue that didn’t improve with extra phonics practice.

Through her research, Holly discovered primitive reflexes and everything started to click.

From Brain Balance to Play-Based Integration
⏱ 06:26

Like many parents, Holly first explored formal programs like Brain Balance and traditional therapy. But they weren’t quite the right fit. Then, she found Kokeb’s Reflex Integration Through Play book series and it changed everything.

Instead of only relying on clinic visits, Holly began supporting her daughter at home through play-based movement, simple routines, and tools she could create herself.

Creative Adaptation at Its Best
⏱ 10:02

One of the most inspiring parts of Holly’s story is how she got creative. Painter’s tape became a visual tracking aid. A yoga ball replaced pricey therapy gear. She even built activities around what her daughter already enjoyed, making the exercises feel less like “work” and more like connection.

Her biggest takeaway? You don’t need fancy credentials to help your child—you just need the right framework.

Routine, Rhythm, and Real Progress
⏱ 11:30

Holly found that the key was consistency. By integrating reflex exercises into their daily routine, even just 10 to 15 minutes a day, they started to see real change.

Better eye tracking. Calmer behavior. And yes, a noticeable improvement in reading.

Kokeb’s Original Vision
⏱ 20:00

Holly’s story is the exact kind of impact Kokeb hoped for when creating the RITP method. As Kokeb shares:

Especially homeschoolers, the parents who don’t have direct services… When I first wrote [the books], I had teachers, parents, and therapists in mind. Especially the kids, too. I wanted it to be easier for the kid who’s even nonverbal to look at the pictures and say, ‘Oh, I get what you’re trying to tell me. I can do that. And then for anybody who’s not had any training before, to be able to pick it up and do a session.”

That’s exactly what Holly did. No certifications. No fancy setup. Just a willingness to show up and support her child, day by day.

For Any Parent Who’s Wondering “Can I Really Do This?”
⏱ 21:32

Holly’s answer is yes.

Yes, you can make progress at home.
Yes, you can build your own tools.
Yes, you can support your child without needing to be an OT.

This episode is more than a story. It’s a reminder that healing can happen in the everyday moments. And sometimes, a parent’s love and persistence is the best therapy there is.

🎧 Tune in to the episode to hear how Holly turned uncertainty into empowerment and how the RITP method helped her create calm, clarity, and connection at home.
